Just to make it clear from the start, this is not an official event. There is no cost, no one in charge, we are all responsible for ourselves. Since we will be in a group for much of the time each person is also in part responsible for ensuring that we don't cause any problems for anyone else in the areas we visit.
[b:db70756edf]Friday 14 July[/b:db70756edf]
Location: Just outside Hathersage in the Peak District National Park, approximately 10 miles from the centre of Sheffield and 30 miles from the centre of Manchester. We will be training all day in all kinds of outdoor locations, from hills to valleys and from rocks to woods, so be prepared!
[b:db70756edf]Saturday 15 July[/b:db70756edf]
Location: Sheffield. Another day's training covering most of the city. Meeting up with the Sheffield contingent at 12 noon and training into the evening.
[b:db70756edf]Sunday 16 July[/b:db70756edf]
Location: Manchester. Training in various locations around Manchester for the morning and early afternoon followed by a more relaxed atmosphere for the afternoon/evening.
[b:db70756edf]Travel and Accommodation[/b:db70756edf]
Accommodation for the Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights will be available for those coming from a distance in the form of a campsite. Places are limited here however so it's first come, first served. The cost for an adult staying there for the four nights is around £18. Vehicles are extra, student discount available.
The campsite is fairly small and because of the time of year there will be families staying there so everyone needs to be on their best behaviour while on site and keep the noise down at night. The campsite has the usual facilities such as toilets, showers and washing areas.
If the numbers are too great or if people prefer not to camp there is also a Youth Hostel in Hathersage which provides cheap accommodation. For people wanting a bit of comfort there are also various hotels/guest houses in Hathersage and the surrounding villages which I'm sure your secretary will be able to book for you
Regrettably we can't accommodate under-16s at the campsite so if you're under 16 and want to come to the training sessions you'll have to make your own way.
Because of the limit on numbers for the campsite and because of the people travelling from distance I'm going to give priority to those travelling from a distance when determining campsite places.
If it is possible to travel to the Peak District from where you live that same morning then I would be grateful if you would consider that as your first choice method rather than taking camping places away from people who might actually need them in order to attend.
Also because of the limited space, if people can share tents rather than have one tent each that would help.
As far as transport is concerned if you're in a car there's no problem as there is parking available at the camp site (for a couple of quid). If you're planning on driving to the sessions on each of the days and have spaces I'm sure people would be grateful if you could offer lifts. I'll give people directions closer to the time.
For arriving via public transport you will almost certainly need to change at either Sheffield or Manchester. From Manchester you will need to get the train which varies from every hour during to every two hours.
From Sheffield you can get either the train or the bus. The trains are once an hour at peak times (early morning) and once every two hours at others and run until about 11pm. By train it takes about 20 minutes. To plan your journey and calculate exact fares I recommend using the National Rail Enquiries website: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/
For the bus you will need the number 272 from the Sheffield Interchange which takes a lot longer but I think runs slightly more frequently than the train and may be cheaper. I will check the timetables and make sure.
For travelling between the sessions during the weekend you will also need to plan transport. From the Hathersage to Sheffield is not very far and shouldn't cost more than about £3.50 for a day return on the train. It is further to get to Manchester and a day return to there will be around £11 at most.
[b:db70756edf]General Notes[/b:db70756edf]
You can either bring your own food or purchase it there. Bear in mind that we will be far from any shops for most of the Friday so you will need to take some form of lunch with you when we leave in the morning. The rest is up to you, but also note that it is quite possible that we will be training quite late into the evening so it may not be possible to go to a supermarket afterwards.
If you are camping then there are several excellent places to eat near the campsite. I plan on visiting a local cafe for breakfast each morning myself and probably for an evening meal on at least one day. Three days solid training is likely to take a lot out of you so it makes sense to get a few solid meals in while you're there as well.
What you do with valuables is up to you. There are no lockers at the camp site so I would suggest you keep anything precious with you, or leave them at home. You can also leave things in your cars but car crime occurs even in the Peak District so don't leave anything visible.
For the training sessions themselves it makes sense to bring a bag with you to carry all the usuals like food, water, money etc. It will be your own responsibility, though, to ensure it stays safe.
For the camping, you will need a tent, sleeping bag and mat. Gas cookers are allowed but camp fires are not. In addition it makes sense to bring a towel for the showers and washing things etc. A few changes of clothes, a couple of changes of footwear (expect to get your clothing and footwear dirty in the Peak District, regardless of the weather) and whatever else you think you may need. Remember though, you've got to transport it all!
The total cost should not be too expensive for most people. Including travel and accommodation, for an adult travelling from Sheffield on the Thursday and returning there on the Monday the cost will be around £38. For a student with a rail card more like £25. That just about gets you into a gym session these days in some places.
If you want to come, or are unsure about any details or can only attend on some days or whatever, get in touch with me via e-mail at dave@northernparkour.com . [b:db70756edf]Please remember to include a relevant subject line. I will also need to know which days you will be attending and which nights you will need accommodation, as well as how you intend to get there so I can coordinate people.[/b:db70756edf]
I can only confirm places to those who have confirmed to me via e-mail.
